HISTORY OF VDJ

Jeanne, aged 8, wearing our first VDJ blouse

VDJ is a family story

The brand was born in February 2007, when I started designing clothes for my little sister Jeanne.

At the time, she was 8 and I was 20, and it was difficult to find sober clothes in neutral colours for children.

So I created a few simple, timeless designs for her that my mother and I couldn't find in clothing shops.

Since then, Le Vestiaire de Jeanne has grown.

We've created an adult line for women and men, as well as household linen and canvas and leather accessories.

In 2021, when my daughter Gaïa was born, we also developed a baby line.

Our aim now is to equip the whole family with a wardrobe, accessories and household linen.

In 2017, we moved to a new location in the heart of Nîmes, a small town in the south of France where we live.

In this space, we have grouped together our offices, our design and tailoring workshop & a store, in which we present our collections as well as the work of other designers carefully selected according to the seasons and our discoveries.

The idea is to promote a SLOW (reasonable and sustainable) way of living and consuming by highlighting traditional know-how, local and/or ethical manufacturing, and presenting beautiful, useful and well-made items for everyday use.

Today, you can find our clothes in our store in Nîmes, on our website and in a handful of shops around the world that share our philosophy.

PHILOSOPHY OF VDJ

«  The idea of VDJ is to offer a wardrobe for the whole family, with simple, elegant, timeless and made to last clothes. »

Charlotte LSM, founder and designer of VDJ

Our brand wants to offer its customers an alternative to fast fashion.

In this sense, we are fully in line with the SLOW FASHION movement, offering permanent collections and locally produced garments with great attention to detail, enabling our community to consume ‘less but better’.

The brand's philosophy is perfectly summed up in the famous phrase coined by English fashion designer Vivienne Westwood: ‘buy less, choose well, make it last’.
